WHENEVER there’s a car accident it’s always someone else’s fault and never yours.

But could you park the blame for your poor driving at the door of your car instead?

Table reveals which cars were most likely to be in an accident last year

You may no longer have to point the finger at another motorist or take a long hard look in the mirror after a scrape.

That’s thanks to analysis of police data that has revealed the car brands most likely to be involved in an accident in the last year.

Of course it is still your fault, but if you own a Honda and have a car parking mishap, you’re not alone.

Cars like the Civic, Accord and CR-V were involved in one accident for every 146 cars registered.

Models from Volvo and Suzuki round out the podium with Mercedes the most likely premium brand reported.

In terms of the highest number of incidents, Vauxhall are top with 16,272, just ahead of Ford with 15,050.

That’s perhaps unsurprising given the huge volumes the pair sell, especially of cars like the Corsa and Fiesta aimed at young drivers.

Fiats were least likely to be involved in accidents

Steve Gooding, director of the RAC Foundation, said: “They say a bad workman blames his tools and the road safety stats show human error is the cause of the vast majority of accidents.

“Even where a vehicle defect is a factor it is often caused by motorists poorly maintaining their cars.

“We might not like what we see but to identify the weak link when it comes to road safety drivers only need glance in the mirror.”

Drivers of Fiats and MINIs have to hold their hands up to their own failings according to the figures.

The data, released by Witter Towbars, shows there’s just one in 547 incidents for Fiat models like the 500 and Panda while the Cooper, Countryman and Clubman have just one incident per 396 registered cars.
