HONDA has pulled the wraps off a new quirky two-seater all-electric sports car at the Tokyo Motor Show.

And the cute, retro styling looks like it’s come straight out of the 1970s.

The throwback Sports EV concept is Honda’s take on a fun sports car to sit between its wild Civic Type R and NSX supercar.

And it’s the sporty brother of the Golf GTI-inspired Urban EV concept revealed a few months back at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The compact hatchback will be built for 2019 – but there’s no confirmation if this two-seater sports car will make production.

The retro design features rounded headlamps, square brake lights and an elongated bonnet.

But while it might look like its been transported from 40 years ago – there’s nothing outdated about this model.

Honda say the model uses artificial intelligence to control the cabin – likely with some self-driving modes, too.

And there’s no powerful sports car engine under the bonnet either.

This design is fully electric – although any performance and range figures are being kept under wraps by the Japanese firm.

Honda has committed to offering electric or hybrid on all new models from next year.

And its entire range will be electrified by 2025.

Honda CEO Hachigo-san said: “Honda has been developing products that will lead to the creation of a carbon free society.

“We will create products which will enhance convenience for the customer. This new Sports EV is a new proposal form Honda, developed to show the joy of driving in an electric car.”
