IF YOU found yourself moved by Herbie, or reached for a tissue watching Lightning McQueen in Cars, the following advertisement may prove too much for you.
Japanese auto manufacturer Honda have successfully tugged at our heartstrings with their latest advert for the new CR-V.
In the form of a two-and-a-half minute short film released to YouTube last week, the ad followed the life cycle of an old Honda Civic, depicting a number of family memories created with the classic red motor.
Entitled “You Are the One”, the film focuses on the bond between a young girl and a car that is treated like a member of the family.
From early car seat road trips to stuffed animal camping trips, to mechanic visits and DIY work with a Band-Aid, the ad shows the lifetime of memories that can be created with a family car.
The film ends with the family giving their Civic one last wash together before they trade it in for a shiny new sport utility vehicle.

Then comes the kicker.
The final scene shows the young girl chasing after the old Civic, waving as it drives away and out of her sight for the last time. Talk about a heartbreaker!

To Honda’s credit, their concept works perfectly.
While the Civic may be the star of the show, the girl’s journey with the car is enough to entice viewers to want similar experiences – something they may be able to achieve in Honda’s latest family car, the CR-V.
Anyone that can think back to their first car can relate in some way to the emotional connection the girl feels towards the Civic.
So if ever you were looking for an excuse to shed a tear over your beloved vehicle, past or present, consider this a legitimate excuse.
